Dalglish was signed by manager Bob Paisley for a British transfer record of £440,000 to replace Kevin Keegan. He quickly settled in, scoring Liverpool's sixth goal in a 6–0 win over Hamburg in the 1977 European Super Cup. By the end of his first season, he had played 62 times and scored 31 goals, making him the club's leading scorer, including the winning goal in the 1978 European Cup final against Bruges at Wembley. In his second season, he recorded a personal best of 21 league goals and was named FWA Footballer of the Year. Dalglish won the Ballon d'Or Silver Award in 1983 and the PFA Players' Player of the Year in 1983. He was voted top of the fans' poll '100 Players Who Shook the Kop' in 2006.
