Early life
Khadeen Carrington grew up in a sports family: his father, Reynold, played professional soccer and coached in Trinidad and Tobago, while his older brother Kariym played Division II basketball. Carrington picked up the game at age eight. He attended Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, where as a sophomore he averaged 22.5 points per game, leading the team to the CHSAA Class AA intersectional quarterfinals and earning a spot on the New York Post's All-City second team.
He also played AAU ball for the New York Lightning. The next year, his scoring average jumped to 24.7 points per game, and he was named a Daily News All-City first-team selection. Alongside Mike Williams, he helped Bishop Loughlin reach the CHSAA 'AA' intersectional championship game. As a senior, Carrington led the CHSAA's Class AA division in scoring at 24.2 points per game, including a 42-point outing.
He was named Brooklyn Boys' Player of the Year by the New York Daily News and CHSAA Player of the Year, guiding the Lions back to the Catholic Intersectional title game. He finished his high school career with 2,196 points, the most in school history. Rivals.com ranked him the 127th-best player in the Class of 2014. He drew offers from Iowa State, Dayton, St. John's, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Providence, Iowa, West Virginia, South Carolina, DePaul, and Hofstra, but chose Seton Hall.
He cited a strong connection with coach Kevin Willard and the staff, and joined fellow Brooklyn native Isaiah Whitehead.

He switched to point guard over the summer, studying video with coach Kevin Willard and assistant Shaheen Holloway. On January 6, 2018, he scored a season-high 29 points in a comeback win over Butler.
He was Big East Player of the Week on February 26 after leading Seton Hall to a win against Providence with 25 points.
