Manortown United F.C.
Dublin football club with a noted youth system.
Manortown United F.C. is a Dublin football club based in Perrystown. Its senior sides play in the Leinster Senior League and compete in Irish knockout tournaments like the FAI Cup and FAI Junior Cup. The club’s youth system has produced several internationals, most notably Niall Quinn, who held the Republic of Ireland scoring record with 21 goals when he retired, and Barry Quinn, who captained the under-18 side to European Championship glory in 1998.
The schoolboy section takes players from age six up to eighteen, fielding multiple teams per age group in the Dublin and District Schoolboys League and other competitions. The club began in 1967, when local residents Arthur Worrell, Jim Smith, Jim Dunne, and Paddy O'Sullivan organised summer league games on the greens of Mountdown Park and Hillsbrook Crescent. Two years later, a larger committee formed with the aim of entering a Perrystown and Manor Estate team into schoolboy leagues.
Home matches are played at Greentrees Park, nicknamed “The 8 Acres” because of the surrounding area’s size, with an additional pitch across the road known as the “5 Acres.” The club recently received a government grant to extend its clubhouse, which will be shared with Robert Emmets GAC. Manortown’s home colours are yellow with royal blue trim, royal blue shorts, and white socks, adopted in 1969, though blue and yellow socks have also been used recently.
The away kit is blue with white trim, white shorts, and yellow socks. The crest, designed by a former player through a club competition, features a church and a tree representing Perrystown and Manor Estate. Local rivals include Greenhills, St. John Bosco, Templeogue United, Lourdes Celtic, Drimnagh Celtic, and Crumlin United.
