Plot

A miniaturized Waverider trapped Rip Hunter, who flew it to the Legends as they formed a counterplan. Ray Palmer restored the ship's size, and the team traveled to 1916 to steal the Spear of Destiny. Eobard Thawne emerged from the changed timeline, destroyed the blood of Christ, murdered a future Ray, and told the earlier Legion members about the Legends to come. The Legends encountered their own earlier selves, which triggered a time storm that grounded the Waverider. Merlyn, Damien Darhk, and Leonard Snart ambushed them. In the fight, all future Legends except Sara Lance and Rip died, while the past Legends took out the Legion. Thawne brought many time remnants of himself and killed future Rip. Sara grabbed the Spear and spoke with a vision of Laurel Lance. Thawne stole the Spear but discovered Sara had drained its power. The Black Flash erased Thawne, and future Sara vanished along with the Spear. Nate Heywood persuaded Amaya Jiwe to remain, and Rip departed. The Legends scattered the Legion across different points in history. At Mick Rory's request, they aimed for Aruba, but instead landed in Los Angeles, which was overrun with dinosaurs and structures pulled from various eras.

Production

Filming for this episode started on February 14, 2017, and wrapped up on the 28th. Following the events of "Doomworld," fans wondered about certain plot details, especially how Amaya would come back. Executive producer Phil Klemmer hinted that Katie Cassidy would return as Laurel Lance and that the episode would feature a high body count. He pointed out that this was surprising because Laurel had already died in Arrow's "Eleven-Fifty-Nine" and because Arrowverse season finales usually only kill off one character. The script came from Klemmer and Marc Guggenheim. The title comes from Mick Rory's ongoing demand throughout the season that the team take a trip to Aruba. Caity Lotz leads the cast as Sara Lance, joined by regulars Brandon Routh, Victor Garber, Arthur Darvill, Franz Drameh, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Amy Louise Pemberton, Nick Zano, Dominic Purcell, and Matt Letscher. This marks the last regular appearance for both Darvill and Letscher; Darvill later returned as a recurring character in season three, and Letscher came back for two guest spots in season seven. John Barrowman, Wentworth Miller, and Neal McDonough appear as Malcolm Merlyn, Leonard Snart, and Damien Darhk. Guest stars include Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance and Jack Turner as J. R. R. Tolkien.

Release

The episode premiered on The CW on April 4, 2017, to an audience of 1.52 million people, with a share of 0.6/2 among adults aged 19–49. It was released on DVD and Blu-ray on August 15, 2017, as part of the Legends of Tomorrow season two box set. Critic reviews are primarily positive; it holds a 90% approval rating from 10 critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critical consensus stating that the episode "manages to tie up the loose ends of Legend's absurd storylines, officially redeeming the series from a mediocre debut season." IGN's Jesse Schedeen gave the episode a rating of 8.9, calling it a "satisfying, eventful finale." Oliver Sava of The A.V. Club gave it an A−, noting that the series experienced a major upswing in quality by being playful and leaning into the campy fun of time travel. Allison Keene of Collider awarded 4 stars, writing that the episode had fun by allowing two sets of Legends to occupy most of the episode and killing off the "spares" from the changed reality future in often gory ways.
