The Elder Dragon
The ancient, slumbering heart of magic that awakens to reshape the fate of Runeterra.
The Elder Dragon is a primordial entity of immense power that predates the current age of Runeterra, serving as an ancient guardian of the world's magical balance. Unlike the dragons of Noxus or the serpentine horrors of the Void, this being represents the raw, untamed essence of magic itself, capable of reshaping reality with a mere breath. It has long slumbered beneath the earth, its existence known only through fragmented myths and the terrified whispers of those who have glimpsed its shadow.

Lore & Background
The awakening of the Elder Dragon marks a turning point in history, signaling that the natural order is fraying under the strain of war and unnatural forces like the Void. When it rises, it does not seek conquest or dominion but rather acts as a cosmic reset button, purging corruption and restoring balance through sheer, overwhelming force. Its presence alone causes magical anomalies worldwide, turning rivers to glass and filling the skies with auroras that burn with the heat of creation.
Reader's Guide
The mythology of the Elder Dragon touches on the fundamental metaphysical structure of Runeterra, suggesting that magic is not merely a resource but a living entity with consciousness. Ancient prophecies hint that the dragon's awakening is tied to the convergence of opposing magical forces, such as the celestial light and the void darkness. Deep narrative threads suggest that the dragon acts as a failsafe mechanism for the world, intervening only when the balance tips too far in any direction.
This implies a cyclical view of history where civilizations rise and fall based on their ability to coexist with this primal force rather than exploit it. Scholars debate whether the dragon is a singular being or a manifestation of all magic combined, but its role as an arbiter remains constant. Its emergence forces characters to confront the limits of their power and the fragility of the world they inhabit.
