The Russian letter kha (Х), a voiceless velar fricative /x/ reminiscent of the Scottish "ch" in loch, has no equivalent in most English dialects and is therefore conventionally written as kh, as in the well-known name Nikita Khrushchev. At the extreme end of the difficulty spectrum sit languages with click consonants, phonemes so alien to most target alphabets that no single Latin letter can capture them. These cases illustrate a fundamental limitation: transliteration is always an approximation, and the gap between source and target scripts can be so wide that no mapping feels fully adequate.
