Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil (soundtrack)

Soundtrack

Country musician Dan Myers contributed three original songs to the film. One of them, "Look Out Shorty!", was chosen as a sample after the producers requested a playful, hip-hop-inspired piece arranged in a big-band jazz style, which they decided suited the project perfectly. Wayne Newton performed the track, and his vocals were described as "thrilling." Myers said he spent three nights writing and recording the song because his agent, Lauren McCarthy, wanted a tune about short people that avoided name-calling and would fit a swing club setting.

He got help from friends in the Chicago jazz community to finish the demo quickly. After that, he was asked to write two more songs, including "Little Squirrel (Forage for Your Love)." The director saw this track as a humorous diversion he experimented with during the film. It first appears as an instrumental, and a version with lyrics plays over the end credits.

Hayden Panettiere performed the song "I Can Do It Alone." William Ruhlmann of AllMusic rated the soundtrack album three out of five stars, noting that Myers's work dominated the release and was considered a roadkill. Justin Chang of Variety commented that the musical choices are as blunt as the gags where minor characters get crushed by falling objects or stepped on. Review Graveyard stated that the soundtrack offers no surprises, just a set of formulaic pop songs that are inoffensive and easy to listen to.

Score

The score album for Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil was released on May 17, 2011, through Lakeshore Records. It contains the film's musical score composed by Murray Gold, Tom Keane, and Dean Landon, with additional music contributed by Christopher Tin. The recording took place at Air Lyndhurst Studios in Hampstead, London. AllMusic's William Ruhlmann rated the album three out of five stars, observing that the music is varied but fits the movie's chaotic, song-filled nature. Ben Simon of Animated Views was more critical, noting that the soundtrack feels overloaded, with Gold's score coming across as a repetitive imitation of The Incredibles and getting lost beneath constant dialogue.
