Kengan Arena

Where the laws of business are settled by fists, and the winner takes all.

The Kengan Arena serves as the exclusive battleground for the Kengan matches, a tradition dating back to Japan's Edo period where wealthy business owners and merchants settle disputes through unarmed combat. In these arenas, the winner takes all, determining corporate dominance without legal intervention. The narrative centers on the Nogi Group, which recruits Ohma Tokita after he defeats their previous fighter in a street fight. Kazuo Yamashita is roped into managing him as they navigate these high-stakes bouts. This culminates in the Kengan Annihilation Tournament, held by Japan's biggest CEOs, where the winner gains control of the Kengan Association and becomes the chairman. Hideki Nogi, who was already chairman before the tournament, retained his position after the winner Tokita Ohma chose to make him chairman.

Lore & Background

Since the Edo period, gladiator arenas have existed globally for unarmed combat where the victor claims total control. These Kengan matches allow corporate giants to resolve conflicts without courtrooms. The story escalates when Nogi Group CEO Hideki Nogi challenges the Kengan Association for the chairmanship, risking his company's dissolution if he loses. To support this gamble, he forms shell companies like Yamashita Trading Co., with Kazuo as President and Ohma as its fighter, and SF Cold Storage, where he appointed Lihito as its president and fighter. The tournament unfolds as Ohma tests his strength while his mysterious past haunts him, all under the watchful eyes of big business owners who prize raw physical prowess above all else.

Reader's Guide

To enter the world of Kengan matches, one must understand the recruitment process initiated by corporate leaders like Hideki Nogi. Fighters are often scouted from street fights or specific backgrounds; for instance, Lihito was initially an opponent on behalf of Yoshitake Real Estate before becoming head of SF Cold Storage. Key combatants include Ohma Tokita, known as 'Ashura,' and Cosmo Imai, the youngest fighter representing Nishihonji Security Services, nicknamed 'The King of Stranglers' for his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu skills. The tournament structure is strict: only designated representatives can fight. Spectators range from CEOs to personal secretaries like Kaede Akiyama, who assists Kazuo and Ohma during the proceedings.

The World of Kengan Matches

The core conflict involves the Kengan Annihilation Tournament, created when Hideki Nogi challenged the Association for the chairman seat. The stipulation was clear: if the Nogi Group fails to win, the company is dissolved and taken by the Association. Fighters represent various entities, such as Jun Sekibayashi from Gandai (nicknamed 'Hell's Angel') or Setsuna Kiryū from Koyo Academy Group. Kiryū enters with an insane attraction to Ohma, driven to kill his own master who murdered Ohma's teacher. The tournament is a test of strength where the winner gains immense power and prestige within the business underworld.

Protagonists and Key Combatants

Ohma Tokita, a fighter in his late 20s, employs the Niko Style taught by his late master. Kazuo Yamashita, a 56-year-old salaryman, becomes his caretaker after their fateful alley encounter. Hideki Nogi orchestrates the tournament and forms shell companies to field fighters. Lihito, whose real name is Ichiro Nakata, uses 'Razor's Edge' technique where his fingers cut through flesh. Setsuna Kiryū seeks to be killed by Ohma as a form of affection. Cosmo Imai represents Nishihonji Security Services and specializes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
