Captain Akiyama
The calm hand that built the SDS, watching from afar.
He personally selected his team members and is noted for his calm behavior and observant nature toward his subordinates. Akiyama appears in episodes 1 through 26, after which he is transferred to the monster observation team in the USA branch following the fight with Gibaruga. His voice is provided by Kinya Morikawa in Japanese and Tom Wyner in English.

Captain Tetsuo Akiyama was the first leader of the SDS, having been recruited for the role by General Sakurada, the chief of the Earth Defense Army in the Far East branch. Akiyama hand-picked his own Far East branch members, demonstrating a personal investment in the team's composition. Before his captaincy, he was a normal officer and a dear friend of Ogawara, who quit his job to build the anti-monster weapon Hector. Akiyama's leadership style is described as calm and observant, contrasting with his successor Gondo's more boisterous approach. His tenure covers episodes 1 through 26, ending when he is transferred to the USA branch's monster observation team after the Gibaruga fight.
