Keroro Gunsō the Super Movie

A dropped coin leads to a mysterious shrine and telepathic chaos.

Last updated

The first film in the Sgt. Frog franchise, this 2006 Japanese animated comic science fiction movie was helmed by director Yusuke Yamamoto and penned by Mamiko Ikeda. Creator Mine Yoshizaki originated the series.

Plot

Instead of blowing up military planes in a simulation, Keroro chooses to go buy the newest Gundam model with Fuyuki. On their way back, they come across a strange shrine that looks like a space fortress. While getting ready to drop in a donation, Keroro fumbles a 100-yen coin into the shrine, so he and Fuyuki have to go in after it. Inside, they find a jungle that seems prehistoric.

Fuyuki spots an old dome and a tiny glass container with a glowing orb inside. Keroro finds his coin but accidentally knocks over the container, shattering it and making the orb flash intensely. He tries gluing it back together with rubber cement, then the two rush out and head home, leaving behind a piece of the container that morphs into a pink being.

Later, while putting together his new GM Sniper Custom model, Keroro notices a small red X on his face. He goes to Fuyuki and Natsumi for help, but neither can do anything. That night, a threatening white Keronian emerges from the mystery shrine and gives the same red X to many Earthlings. The next day, anyone with the mark gains telepathic abilities called Revocommi, letting them communicate mind-to-mind.

The X is also contagious, spreading from person to person and turning others into Revolutors. Keroso then tells Kururu to build an amplifier, planning to use his new power to send boosted commands to all Revolutors on Earth and take control of them. That same night, the white Keronian, now perched on a tower, transmits a weird signal.

Mini-games

The game includes several minigames, some supporting multiplayer modes marked with * (multi-card play and download play) and (multi-card play only). In one minigame, the player must collect 20 coins and reach the goal while avoiding obstacles to avoid being run over by a steamroller; its name parodies Hashire Merosu. Playable characters are Keroro, Tamama, Giroro, Kururu, and Dororo.

Another minigame requires the player to reach the top of levels before time runs out, with the same playable characters. A sliding puzzle minigame has the player slide parts of a wanted character until complete, then touch it, all before time runs out; only Keroro is playable. A racing minigame tasks the player with reaching the goal before time runs out, using Keroro, Tamama, Giroro, Kururu, or Dororo.

A fishing minigame requires catching fish until the required weight is reached before time runs out, with Tamama as the fishman and Keroro and Giroro as baits. A shooting minigame plays like Time Crisis, with Giroro as the playable character. Kururu must defend the Hinata family's house before it is destroyed. A wrestling-style minigame plays like Tag Team Match: MUSCLE but for advanced players, featuring Keroro (special move: Keroro Driver), Tamama (Tamama Impact), Giroro (Bull Docking), and Dororo (Dororo Slash).

Another minigame has Keroro reach the goal before time runs out using a mecha robot that walks continuously; the player touches buttons on a Family Fun Fitness-like carpet on the bottom screen to run faster and avoid obstacles. A hide-and-seek minigame requires finding the wanted character before time runs out, with harder levels featuring more poses; only Keroro is playable. The last minigame is a battle of Keroro Shoutai against Kiruru, unlockable only after beating level 3 of all minigames, with playable characters Keroro, Tamama, Giroro, Kururu, and Dororo.
