When Dredd is framed for murder by his half-brother Rico, Hershey defends him at his trial before the Council of Judges, but he is convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment. After Dredd escapes from the penal colony and returns to Mega-City One, Hershey teams up with him and Fergie, having uncovered the Janus Project—a genetic engineering program that created Dredd and Rico as clones.
