Career
Husby grew up in Oslo alongside jazz journalist Knut Borge. After piano studies at the Music Conservatory of Oslo, he earned a siv.ing. in acoustics at the Norwegian Institute of Technology, then studied jazz at Berklee in Boston. In Trondheim from 1971 to 1980, he worked with the Bodega Band, writing original music for recordings with bassist Jan Tro. He performed in groups led by Asmund Bjørken and Bjørn Alterhaug, and served as musical director at Trøndelag Teater. Husby led his own septet and quintet, and released records with his 13-piece Per Husby Dedication Orchestra. Returning to Oslo in 1980, he led the Federation of Norwegian Jazz musicians and co-edited Jazznytt. For over twenty years he made regular appearances on Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation television, including eleven years as musical director for the series Da Capo. He has produced and played with Hilde Louise Asbjørnsen, and performs in Bodil Niska's Quartet and with singer Laila Dalseth. As an accompanist he has worked with visiting soloists such as Chet Baker, Clark Terry, Joe Henderson, Pepper Adams, Kenny Wheeler, James Moody, and Karin Krog.
