Media
The Magic of Chocolate is written and illustrated by Rino Mizuho and has been serialized irregularly in Ciao and Ciao DX since September 3, 2008. Shogakukan collects the chapters under the Ciao Horror Comics imprint; the first volume was released on July 1, 2009, and as of March 26, 2024, 24 volumes have been published. Volumes are named alphabetically rather than numbered. From October 11 to November 1, 2013, columnist Bourbon Kobayashi ran a Twitter contest for guessing the subtitle of volume 10 (starting with J), judged by Mizuho, with prizes for the first three correct answers and special jury awards. An OVA was announced on the wrap-around band of volume 3 on November 29, 2010; episodes were distributed via Ciao Ciao TV! DVD discs in Ciao magazine from the April 2011 issue through the February 2013 issue. All episodes were made available on Ciao's official YouTube channel in 2021. A light novel adaptation, written by Riku Hozumi with illustrations by Mizuho, is published by Shogakukan under the Shogakukan Junior Bunko imprint; volume 4 was co-written by Sayoko Fujiwara. The live-action film, announced in January 2021 and released on June 18, 2021, stars Maho Yamaguchi as Chocolat in her film debut, produced by Shinya Furugori and Kana Ohtsubo, directed by Tomonobu Morikawa, with script by Tatsuya Kanazawa. An official fanbook titled The Magic of Chocolate: H to I was released on April 30, 2013. In February 2013, the series collaborated with lolita fashion brand Baby, The Stars Shine Bright to produce a dress based on Chocolat.
