Plot

The police enlist serial killer Uragami, who can detect parasites, to identify them among humans, though he fails to correctly identify Shinichi Izumi. Months after the previous film, Shinichi continues hunting parasites with the help of Migi, the parasite in his right hand. Shinichi warns Kuramori that Tamiya is a parasite, but Kuramori records a conversation with mayor Takeshi Hirokawa, who leads a parasite organization. Hirokawa orders parasites to kill Kuramori, but they only kill his daughter. Seeking revenge, Kuramori kidnaps Tamiya's baby and threatens to kill it. Despite pleas from Tamiya and Shinichi, Kuramori nearly carries out his plan, but Tamiya kills him. Police then fatally shoot Tamiya as she protects her child, handing the baby to Shinichi before dying. Meanwhile, a secret service team evacuates town hall and kills most parasites, including Hirokawa, who is a human supporting parasites. The remaining parasite Goto, containing five parasites, massacres the team and pursues Shinichi. In a forest, Migi sacrifices himself so Shinichi can escape.

Reception

Edmund Lee of South China Morning Post rated the film two and a half stars out of five. Elizabeth Kerr of The Hollywood Reporter called it an example of filmmakers trying to extract another box office hit from source material that does not always warrant it. James Marsh of Twitch Film said the sci-fi, horror and adventure elements are sidelined, resulting in an underwhelming experience. Mark Schilling of The Japan Times noted the film's message that humans and parasites face similar survival problems.
