History
In September 2018, Warner Music Japan and producer Yasushi Akimoto opened auditions for what they called a "national girl band," using a system where member selection was tied to the songs they might perform. The initial group of 39 was chosen, with two more joining before their debut. That December, Akimoto introduced the 41 members and the band's name, The Coinlockers, at a press event. Their first single, "Yuuutsu na Sora ga Sukinanda," came out on June 19, 2019, and was used as the theme for the drama Ore no Sukāto, Dokoyatta? A first nationwide tour was announced for May. In May 2020, the lineup was cut to 13 members, and they put out a second single, "Boku wa Shiawase Nanoka?" From July 31 to August 14, they dropped the album Gunjō Mirāju on TikTok, posting one song each day. In November 2021, the band said they would break up at the end of the year, marking their third anniversary, following a final show at Zepp Haneda Tokyo.
