History

Memory Records was founded in 1983 by Alessandro Zanni and Stefano Cundari. The label emphasized instrumental synthesizer productions, launching acts like Hipnosis, Koto, and Cyber People. Other main artists included J. D. Jaber, Mike Cannon, Duke Lake, Baby's Gang, Ken Laszlo, Alan Ross, Brian Ice, Roy, and Swan. Memory Records had branches in Spain and Germany. Its sub-label Digital Records operated from 1985 to 1988, and was briefly branded as Plexi-Glass Productions from 1985 to 1986.

Popularity loss and closure

By 1987, Italo disco was fading in Europe and the label's business declined sharply due to the rising popularity of house music. Memory Records attempted to adapt by shifting toward house and Eurobeat, with modest results. The label closed in 1989. Zanni and Cundari then formed MCE Records to produce techno house music, but that label ceased operations after Cundari's death in 1993. Memory Records' back catalog is currently owned by ZYX Music.
