Making and release

EDA originally published the light novel as a free web novel on Shōsetsuka ni Narō in 2014.[3] Hobby Japan published the first print volume with illustrations by Kochimo in October 2015.[3] Kochimo adapted the series into a manga published by Hobby Japan.[4] J-Novel Club also licensed the manga, with fourteen tankōbon volumes released as of June 2026.[4][5]

What the cited sources add

Rebecca Silverman of Anime News Network gave the first light novel volume a grade of B−.[1][6] Silverman noted the protagonist's father's cooking knife carries "an almost reliquary feel" as a symbol of Asuta's lost life.[1] She observed that cooking scenes, though plentiful, lack the excessive detail of the butchering scenes.[1] She concluded that for readers who enjoy cooking stories, it is "an interesting one" despite not yet achieving perfect balance.[1]

Rebecca Silverman commended the way cultural differences were addressed and the English translation's quality.[6] Silverman noted that the book "isn't the most thrilling of books" and might focus more on elements other than game preparation.[1]
