Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy is an Indian music trio made up of Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani, and Loy Mendonsa. Together, they have created music for more than 50 film soundtracks in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Marathi, and English. Widely regarded as some of India’s most respected musicians, they have collected many honors, including National Film Awards, Filmfare Awards, and IIFA Awards. Often called the Amar Akbar Anthony (AAA) of Hindi film music, they are best known for their work on films like *Dil Chahta Hai* (2001), *Kal Ho Naa Ho* (2003), *Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna* (2006), *My Name Is Khan* (2010), *Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara* (2011), and *Dil Dhadakne Do* (2015).

**Shankar Mahadevan** is the trio’s lead singer. He grew up in Chembur, a Mumbai suburb, in a Tamil family originally from Kerala. As a child, he studied Hindustani classical music under Shrinivas Khale and also learned Carnatic classical music. After earning a B.E. in Computer Science from Ramrao Adik Institute of Technology in Navi Mumbai in 1988, he worked as a software engineer on Oracle Version Six. He later worked at Leading Edge Systems before moving into music. His first award as a playback singer came from a Tamil film, where he worked with A. R. Rahman and won a National Film Award for a song in *Kandukondain Kandukondain*. A major figure in Tamil cinema, he gained wider fame after releasing his debut album *Breathless* in 1998. In 2019, he received the Padma Shri Award for his contributions to film music. He has two sons, Siddharth and Shivam Mahadevan, both of whom are singers.
**Ehsaan Noorani** is the group’s guitarist. He studied music under Bismarck Rodrigues from a young age. Before studying abroad at the Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles, he played in two Mumbai bands, Pegasus and Crosswinds. After returning to Mumbai, he became a sought-after jingle composer, working with top music directors of the time. His independent career as a jingle composer began when Magic Box Productions asked him to create a jingle for Sona Spices. Later, director Mukul S. Anand approached him to compose music for the film *Dus*. Ehsaan asked Shankar and Loy to join him, but the film was never released after Anand’s death.
