The East German men's national ice hockey team played its first international game on 28 January 1951 in East Berlin, losing 3–8 to Poland. What would become the team's final game was played on 8 April 1990 in Megève during the B Group of the World Championship, a 2–3 loss to Austria. In October 1990, Germany was re-unified.
