Ice hockey in Saudi Arabia began in the early 1990s at the Fal Shopping Centre Ice Rink in Riyadh, a rink one-third the size of a standard North American rink. In 1994, five Saudis joined a team of mostly Canadian and Finnish expatriates to win the Canuck Cup in Dubai; among them was Prince Ahmed Al-Saud, who became a fan after watching hockey in New York. Saudi Arabia played its first international games in 2010 at the Gulf Ice Hockey Championship in Kuwait City, losing 10–3 to Kuwait and 14–1 to the United Arab Emirates before defeating Oman 3–1 for its first win, finishing third in the four-team tournament. The team was inactive until the 2022 GCC Games, and at the 2023 Arab Cup, it was unofficially represented by the Jeddah Eagles club team.
