Lore & Background

In Their Own Story

The path is narrow. The Boy stops. His small hands press flat against the rough ground, and he waits.

Behind him, the sound of heavy breathing. Not a growl—something lower, a rumble that comes from somewhere deep in the chest. The Dog's head fills the gap between the two walls of the passage. Its eyes are not angry. They are simply fixed, and they do not blink.

The Boy does not run. He steps sideways, slowly, into the dark alcove to his left. The Dog's nose moves. The rumble shifts pitch, drops. Then the heavy footsteps resume, dragging past the alcove, close enough that the Boy can feel the displaced air against his face.

Silence. The Boy exhales. He moves on.
