Last updated
Edane, written as EdanE, is a rock band from Jakarta, Indonesia. Eet Sjahranie founded the group during the peak of the country's rock and metal scene.
Over roughly three decades, they have put out six studio albums and one compilation. Their track "Cry Out" appeared on the Spider-Man 2 soundtrack in 2004. The band has also earned Anugerah Musik Indonesia and Hammersonic Awards.
History
Edane was formed when the project duo Eet Sjahranie and Ekki Soekarno, named after both their initials (E & E), did not continue. Both Eet and Ekki had been involved earlier in the 'Kharisma Indonesia' collaboration project initiated by Ekki. Eet then continued the 'E & E' project duo with Ecky Lamoh, who was also involved in 'Kharisma Indonesia', keeping the duo name due to the same initials. That duo project also stalled and transformed into a band with additional members Fajar Satritama (drums) and Iwan Xaverius (bass), with Eet as guitarist and Ecky as vocalist; the band's name became EdanE.
Over nearly three decades, Edane often changed their vocalist. The current lineup, whose musical style is influenced by Pantera, Van Halen and AC/DC, consists of Eet (guitar), Fajar (drums), Ervin (vocals), Hendra (guitar), and Oktav (bass). Edane's fans formed a community through social media known as 'Edane Freaks' to share news, activities, live schedules, releases, and merchandise trades.
The early formation featured Eet (guitar), Fajar (drums), Ecky (vocals), and Iwan (bass). They soon released their debut album titled The Beast on the label AIRO Records.
The album was produced by Edane with Setiawan Djody as executive producer (AIRO) and Jimmy Doto as producer, consisting of nine songs starting with "Evolusi" as an intro and ending with "You Don't Have to Tell Me Lies". Collaborating musicians included Eet's bandmate Iwan Madjid on keyboard for "Evolusi", Moesya Yoenoes on keyboard for "Masihkah Ada Senyum" and "Life", Indonesian senior musician Sawung Jabo contributed to the songwriting of "The Beast", and Tontowy for "Ikuti" and "Menang Atau Tergilas". Two months after the debut, Edane was the opening act for the Brazilian metal band Sepultura's 'Sepultura World Tour 1992' concert at Lebak Bulus Stadium, Jakarta.
