The Mapuche uprising of 1766 was the last major Spanish–Mapuche conflict in Araucanía. On December 25, 1766, conspiring Mapuche launched surprise attacks on Spanish settlements, besieging the town of Angol. A relieving force broke the siege and evacuated Angol, which was abandoned. The uprising later evolved into an inter-indigenous conflict after Pehuenches attacked lowland Mapuche in January 1767, possibly instigated by the Spanish. A peace agreement was signed in February 1767.
