Production
The entire film was shot on 7 December 2012 at a three-storey bungalow near Porur in Chennai. It was filmed on a single camera without any cuts, earning the Guinness World Record for longest uncut film, surpassing Russian Ark's 96-minute Steadicam sequence. A director registered with the union, a notary public, and a government teacher were present during the shoot, while a team filmed the making of the film for the Guinness jury. The camera used was a Sony NEX-FS100. Director Issack left his software job to make a different and entertaining film, spending over a year on the script and citing Russian Ark as inspiration. Ten people were involved: the director, cameraman, and eight actors, all newcomers. The team rehearsed for over a month, running the entire sequence over 40 times. Agadam was the first film shot in night effect with a hand-held camera, had no songs, and received a U/A certificate from the Censor Board.
Reception
Dinamalar praised the film for its good medical message and unique single-shot approach, lauding the cast and technicians while noting that slow parts did not harm the result. Kungumam magazine appreciated the cameraman and director for completing a single-shot film entirely in a house. Maalai Malar daily commended the cinematography and direction but felt the music lacked thrill, though the effort was appreciated. M. Suganth of The Times of India, who could not watch the film in one sitting due to a forced interval, rated it 1.5 out of 5, calling it a cautionary tale that digital technology does not guarantee a good film.
