Lore & Background

The series follows Karan Kapoor, a young man born with supernatural powers who remains unaware of them until his twenty-first birthday, when his powers increase rapidly. He learns he is the 'chosen one' destined to defeat the evil forces of Markesh. After being beaten to death by classmates for reporting cheating, he is revived by his maternal grandfather Devdutt using the power of seven stars, gaining superpowers and becoming the masked hero Karma. The show is set in the fictitious city of Panaki and was shot in Mumbai and other Indian cities.

Reader's Guide

Karma holds significance as Balaji Telefilms' first venture into the action-thriller and superhero genre, marking a departure from the production house's typical family dramas. Originally titled Kalki, the pilot was rejected by StarPlus in early 2003, leading to a rework and renaming. The series featured a cast including Siddharth Choudhary, Riva Bubber, and Tinnu Anand, and later re-aired on Star Utsav and Pogo. Its abrupt ending, with Karan stating he must continue his duty without expecting fortune, left the narrative unresolved. The show's legacy lies in its pioneering role in Indian television superhero storytelling.
