Psycho Patrol R
Satirical cyberpunk shooter set in an alternate Reichian Europe.
Psycho Patrol R is a first-person shooter in early access, developed and published by Ville Kallio under the Consumer Softproducts label. It became available on Steam on March 23, 2025. The game presents a satirical cyberpunk vision of early 21st-century Europe, a setting where the theories of Wilhelm Reich and related Western esoteric traditions have been proven real.
The player assumes the role of an officer in the Psycho Patrol, an elite police unit that operates mechs. Their mission is to locate and neutralize "psychohazards"—phenomena that endanger both public mental health and state security.
**Gameplay**
Players control a customizable mech known as a V-Stalker, or VASU (Vertical Assault Stalker Unit). Missions require the elimination of psychohazards. Combat is extremely brief: most enemies die in one hit, but the player is also vulnerable to a single killing blow. The mech offers strong protection against standard firearms and makes short work of ground-level foes, but the player must still avoid heavy weapons carried by enemy mechs. Occasionally, the player must leave the mech to enter buildings.
Civilian casualties are a common result of collateral damage. Money dropped by dead enemies and civilians can be collected. This currency funds mech upgrades, repairs, weapons, ammunition, and participation in an in-game stock market. However, money is lost upon death and vanishes if not retrieved in the following playthrough. The player can fall into debt, which blocks further purchases until repaid.
**Synopsis**
**Setting**
The game takes place in an alternate 2000 AD. Most European nations (excluding the United Kingdom) have merged into Pan-Europa, a federal superstate suffering from economic decline and social decay. Wilhelm Reich’s concept of orgone energy has been scientifically confirmed and used to power advanced technology, including mechs. His anti-fascist, anti-Hitlerite ideas have also shaped the region’s governance and criminology. Law enforcement across Pan-Europa is handled by the European Federal Police (EFP), an organization that has grown bloated, callous, and corrupt. The newest EFP branch is the Psychohazard Division, or Psycho Patrol, headed by Chief Lorenzo Visconti.

Lore & Background
Psycho Patrol R takes place in an alternate 2000 AD where the countries of Europe, except the United Kingdom, have merged into the unitary federal state of Pan-Europa, a superpower rife with economic decline and social decay. Wilhelm Reich's theory of orgone energy has been proven scientifically and harnessed as a power source for advanced technologies such as mechs. The European Federal Police (EFP) handles all law enforcement but has become bloated, callous, and corrupt. The newest branch is the Psychohazard Division, or Psycho Patrol, led by Chief Lorenzo Visconti, which officially advocates non-violent solutions but in practice has nearly unlimited latitude to apply lethal force.
Reader's Guide
Psycho Patrol R is significant as the follow-up to Ville Kallio's cult game Cruelty Squad, continuing his distinctive aesthetic and gameplay style. The game's early access release on March 23, 2025, offers only Chapter 1, with future chapters under development. Its gameplay is a first-person shooter where the player pilots a customizable mech called a V-Stalker or VASU. Most enemies and the player can be killed in one hit, leading to battles lasting seconds. Collateral damage causes civilian deaths, and money dropped on death can be lost. The game's satirical plot involves the player character, The Recruit, who is motivated by an obsessive romantic attraction to Chief Visconti, arresting a researcher whose work is verifiably legitimate, leading to the absorption of his organization into the Psycho Patrol. Paste magazine called the gameplay frustrating but praised its unique graphics and aesthetics driven by 'the singular whims of creatives rather than by a committee of suits.'
