Live Your Dream. Accept No Limitation.
Nigerian Idol is the Nigerian edition of the Idol franchise, following the country's earlier involvement in Idols West Africa. The competition began in 2010, marking Nigeria's 50th anniversary, with the motto "Live Your Dream. Accept No Limitation." It was open to Nigerians aged 18 to 28, premiered in October 2010, and aired across 15 African channels. The first winner, announced on March 27, 2011, was 26-year-old Onyekachi Elizabeth Gilbert Onwuka, also known as "yeka onka" from Ohafia, who beat Naomi Ebiama. Her prize included 7.5 million Naira, a Sony recording contract, a car, and a paid trip to South Africa. Before earning a Golden Ticket in Lagos, Yeka had auditioned twice without success.
