Playing career
Jacob Moverare, a Swedish defenceman born on August 31, 1998, currently plays for EV Zug in Switzerland’s National League. He was picked by the Los Angeles Kings in the fourth round, 112th overall, during the 2016 NHL draft.
Moverare first played in the Swedish Hockey League with HV71 in the 2015–16 season, appearing in four games without scoring. He had earned that promotion after putting up 21 points in 41 games as a defenceman for HV71’s J20 SuperElit team. After being drafted, he signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Kings on July 15, 2016. To continue developing in North America, he was taken 20th overall in the 2016 CHL Import Draft by the Mississauga Steelheads of the Ontario Hockey League and agreed to join them on August 9.
After two seasons in major junior hockey with the Steelheads, Moverare attended the Kings’ 2018 training camp for his first full professional year. He was cut from the roster on September 23, 2018, and sent to the training camp of the Kings’ AHL affiliate, the Ontario Reign. Because the Kings had too many defencemen and wanted Moverare to get guaranteed ice time, they loaned him back to the SHL. Instead of returning to HV71, he signed a season-long deal with Frölunda HC on September 24, 2018.
On March 6, 2024, Moverare signed a two-year contract extension with the Kings. After playing 109 NHL games with the team and spending six years in the organization, he left as a free agent. On July 28, 2026, he returned to Europe by agreeing to a two-year contract with EV Zug.
