The Ladybird of Szeged (also called the Ladybug of Szeged) is an early robot developed between 1956 and 1957 at the Cybernetics Laboratory of the University of Szeged in Hungary. Designed and built by Dr. Dániel Muszka, it is one of the first Hungarian robots and the first robotic animal ever constructed. Its hemispherical red shell with black dots resembles a ladybird, and it was built primarily to emulate Pavlovian conditional reflexes in a machine.

The Ladybird was inspired by psychologist József Király’s idea for a demonstration robot. Muszka built the machine with a metal baseplate, three rubber wheels (two driven by windscreen wiper motors, one free-rotating caster), and an umbilical power cable because batteries were not feasible at the time. Its original varnished papier-mâché shell was later replaced with a plastic one due to deterioration. The robot has three photosensors, a mechanical collision sensor, an electromechanical buzzer, and two red 'eyes' that light up but cannot see.

The Ladybird exhibits phototaxis by following a strong light source, and it can form a conditional reflex: after pairing a light 'go' signal with a specific sound frequency (e.g., from a flute), the robot can move forward on sound alone. This memory fades as capacitors drain or can be erased by pressing any black dot button. When 'hurt' (a button pressed), it refuses to move, buzzes, darkens its eyes, and forgets conditioning; it can be 'soothed' by pressing a sliding vane on top. It also stops and 'cries' when hitting an obstacle.

Muszka built two working replicas in the 2000s. One replica is in the Informatics History Exhibition in Szeged alongside the original; the other is in the Technical Study Stores of the Hungarian Technical and Transportation Museum in Budapest. The original remains in working condition and serves as the symbolic mascot of the Informatics History Exhibition.
