Lore & Background

The Casting of Frank Stone expands the Dead by Daylight universe across three divergent timelines, orchestrated by the Entity, a cosmic malevolent being that feeds on victims' emotions. The story begins in 1963 when police officer Sam Green confronts serial killer Frank Stone at a steel mill. In 1980, a group of teenage filmmakers—Linda, Jaime, Chris, Bonnie, and Robert—sneak into the abandoned mill to shoot an amateur horror film, using a mysterious camera that captures paranormal energy and summons Frank's undead spirit. After Chris is pulled into a portal, Sam helps trap Frank's spirit in the film, and the survivors divide the reels.

In 2024, Madison (Bonnie's daughter), an older Linda, and a man named Stan are invited to an English manor owned by cultist Augustine Lieber, who secretly houses a massive time machine called the Horologium. The group discovers they have been pulled from divergent timelines. Augustine, who worships the Entity, uses the assembled film to resurrect Frank as a monstrous being. Frank kills Augustine, and the surviving characters are transported to a campfire in the Entity's realm, where Frank awaits his role as a killer in the Entity's trials.

Reader's Guide

The Casting of Frank Stone represents a notable crossover between Supermassive Games' signature interactive drama style and Behaviour Interactive's Dead by Daylight universe. The game features a branching narrative, environmental puzzles, and quick time events, with every decision potentially determining life or death for the characters. Players gather clues to learn about Cedar Hills and Frank Stone's mysteries. Behaviour's head of partnerships Mathieu Cote stated that a single-player narrative game in the Dead by Daylight universe was something the studio had always wanted, but lacking single-player experience, they sought Supermassive Games as the first team they contacted. Supermassive's Steve Goss noted that while the game will be familiar to players of the studio's previous narrative games, it also contains sections that feel different due to the Dead by Daylight connection. The game received mixed or average reviews on Metacritic, with OpenCritic assessing fair approval recommended by 38% of critics.
