Release

Originally scheduled for a 2011 opening, the film was delayed. After debate over a theatrical versus direct-to-video release, it opened in German theaters on 4 April 2013. It did not enter the Top 5 in its opening week and earned €309,172 over its theatrical run. Before the German premiere, 205 – Room of Fear screened at the Go North festival in Stockholm and was released in Turkey on 20 July 2012. The film is set for a Region 2 DVD and Blu-ray release in Germany on 10 October 2013, carrying an FSK 16 rating.

Reception

Critical response to 205 – Room of Fear has been mixed. Moviepilot compiled twelve reviews giving an average score of 5.0 out of 10. Dirk Henninger of Echo Online praised the acting and found the story thrilling, while Ash Williams of Near Dark awarded four out of five stars, calling it a good horror thriller from Germany. Spielfilm.de rated it 8 out of 10, enjoying the focus on Katrin's psyche, and Cinetastic gave 6 out of 10. Rajko Burchardt described the film as a scary movie with an East German feel but said it failed miserably. Lida Bach of Filmrezension gave a negative review, scoring it one out of five stars.
