Reader's Guide
The Gates of Hell trilogy holds significance as a cohesive thematic cycle within Lucio Fulci's filmography, though it was never officially designated as such by the director. The trilogy is often cited by horror enthusiasts for its atmospheric, surreal approach to the supernatural and its consistent use of lead actress Katherine MacColl. The films have been adapted into comic book form by Eibon Press, which published three volumes: Lucio Fulci's Gates of Hell, Lucio Fulci's Gates of Hell Book 2: Son of the Deacon, and Lucio Fulci's Gates of Hell Book 3: Tears of Blood. The trilogy is sometimes discussed alongside other Italian horror series such as the Zombi film series and the House film series. Its legacy endures through home video releases and continued reference in genre studies, though no official canon or direct narrative continuity exists between the three films.
