via Wikipedia: Quantico, Virginia · see source
Quantico is a small town in the southeastern corner of Prince William County, Virginia, once known as Potomac. It sits roughly 35 miles southwest of Washington, D.C., with the Potomac River on its eastern edge and Quantico Creek to the north. Only 578 people lived there at the 2020 census. What gives the town its outsized reputation is its neighbor: Marine Corps Base Quantico wraps around its other two sides, and that base hosts the FBI Academy, the FBI Laboratory, the HMX-1 presidential helicopter squadron and training or headquarters facilities for several federal investigative agencies.

Background
The name comes from Pamacocack, a Doeg village that English colonists wrote down in 1608; the word is said to mean a place by the long stream. Before that, in the 1500s, the Manahoac branch of the tidewater Algonquin people lived just north of the site, growing corn and fishing. A mill went up at the mouth of Quantico Creek around 1690. Scottish traders later built a tobacco economy in the area that relied on enslaved labor, alongside a modest iron industry. When the Revolutionary War came, Quantico became the chief naval base for the Commonwealth of Virginia's fleet. That wartime role, together with a harbor that kept filling with silt, undercut the local tobacco trade.
