Life and work

She auditioned for The Mask at age 21 with no previous acting experience.[2][3] In 1998, she starred in There's Something About Mary, which was the highest-grossing comedy of 1998 in North America.[4] Diaz published a health book, The Body Book, in 2013.[5] She married musician Benji Madden on January 5, 2015.[6]

On her father's side, Diaz's family roots are Cuban, while her mother's lineage is mostly English and German.[7] Long Beach was where she grew up, and she completed her education at Long Beach Polytechnic High School.[8] In 1994, The Mask ranked among the ten movies that earned the most money that year.[3]

What the cited sources add

The BBC News account states that photographer John Rutter was convicted of forgery, attempted grand theft and perjury.[9] The Guardian reports that Rutter attempted to sell topless photos back to Diaz for $3.5 million after she became a movie star.[10] The Guardian also notes that Diaz testified she was not ashamed of the shots.[10] The Golden Globes record lists her four nominations, including for Being John Malkovich and Vanilla Sky.[11]

According to the Marie Claire excerpt, Diaz stated that she has no objection to appearing nude if it serves the narrative.[12]
