Feder (fencing)
Renaissance training sword with balanced weight and spatulated tip.
It features a thin, rounded blade with a large ricasso and a heavy hilt and pommel, giving it the same weight and center of balance as a real sword. The construction moves the center of percussion beyond the tip. The spatulated tip may have been covered with a leather sleeve for safer thrusting, though direct historical evidence is lacking. The term Federschwert is modern.
