Parakaryon is a genus of single-celled organism known only from a single specimen, described in 2012. It is the sole species in the genus, Parakaryon myojinensis, also called the Myojin parakaryote. The organism is highly unusual because it possesses features of both prokaryotes and eukaryotes but appears to be distinct from either group, making it unique among all other organisms discovered thus far.

The only known specimen of Parakaryon myojinensis was collected from the bristle of an unidentified scale worm living at hydrothermal vents on Myōjin Knoll, about 1,240 meters deep in the Pacific Ocean. The specific name myojinensis reflects this location. The generic name Parakaryon comes from Greek words meaning 'beside' or 'beyond' and 'nucleus', highlighting its distinction from both eukaryotes and prokaryotes.
