Panzer World Galient (機甲界ガリアン, Kikōkai Garian) is a Japanese anime television series blending fantasy and science fiction, produced by Sunrise and released in 1984. Ryōsuke Takahashi directed the show, with Sōji Yoshikawa handling the script. Mechanical designs came from Kunio Okawara and Yutaka Izubuchi. The series aired on Nippon Television from October 5, 1984, to March 29, 1985, running for 25 episodes. It stands as the third entry in the Takahashi Mecha Trilogy, preceded by Armored Trooper Votoms and Fang of the Sun Dougram.
The story unfolds in the medieval-like fantasy realm of Arst, where Prince Jordy Volder rises to oppose the conqueror Marder. Jordy wields the legendary giant robot known as the panzer Galient, one of many such machines preserved underground for millennia. Marder, commanding an army of advanced robot panzers, seeks to conquer Arst and its surrounding territories. In the final episode, Jordy and Chururu walk away from the battlefield, with the final shot being a close-up of the Galient's sword stuck in the ground.
The opening theme, "The Galient World – Run For Your Life," and the ending theme, "Hoshi no Ichibyō" (meaning "A Second of a Star"), were both composed and performed by EUROX, a Japanese progressive rock band formed in Tokyo in 1984. The band also produced English versions of both songs with largely different lyrics, and released a 2009 remake of each in both languages. The ending theme typically played over daytime shots of a sword stuck in sand, with no character reflections on its blade as credits flashed.
