History

Machetazo began in 1994 as a side project of two other death metal bands from the area, initially leaning more toward noisecore than grindcore. Two demos followed: 46 Cabezas Aplastadas por un Yunque Oxidado in 1995 and Realmente Disfruto Comiendo Cadáveres in 1997. The latter achieved international underground success and was remastered in 1999 by the American label Fudgeworthy Records. At that point Machetazo ceased being a side project and became a full band, though lineup difficulties reduced it to two members. Their debut album Carne de Cementerio appeared in 1999 on Razorback Records. After several split singles, with Dopi as the sole surviving original member and new guitarist Rober, the second full-length Trono de Huesos was recorded in 2002, paying tribute to the seminal grind sound of bands like Carcass or Repulsion. A more stable lineup then formed: Dopi on drums and vocals, Carlos "Cadaver" on bass and vocals, and Rober on guitar. After two singles, the third album Sinfonías del Terror Ciego, a concept album about Spanish filmmaker Amando de Ossorio, was released in 2005, broadening their audience. In 2006 they toured extensively and released a split single with Total Fucking Destruction on Relapse Records. Carlos Cadaver left the band in late 2008; Santi from Nashgul became the bass player.

Side projects

Members of Machetazo have pursued several side projects. Dopi plays drums, bass and guitar in Deadmask, a classic doom band influenced by Saint Vitus, Pentagram and Trouble, with vocalist Nuria; Deadmask released the MCD Under Luciferian Wings in November 2008 on PsycheDOOMelic Records. Dopi also sings in Dishammer, an old-school thrash crust band featuring members of Moho, Looking For An Answer and Disnation; their first LP Vintage Addiction came out in December 2008. Rober plays guitar and bass in Banished From Inferno, an old-school death metal trio with vocalist Roger "Rogga" Johansson and drummer Phlegeton; their debut MCD Banished From Inferno was released in August 2008 on Ibex Moon Records. Santi is also vocalist in the grindcore band Nashgul, though this is not a side project. Carlos Cadaver currently plays bass in the heavy metal band Sister Moon.

Labels

Machetazo's material has been released primarily on two labels: Razorback Records issued all three albums on CD, while the Asturian label Throne Records handled vinyl releases. The band also had material appear on numerous small underground international labels, including Al Pacino Records, Scurvy Records, First Blood Family, Frigidity Records, Goryfied Productions, Hells Headbangers, Irony Records, Last House On The Right Records, Relapse Records, Sterilized Decay Records and Upground Records.
