Professional play
Donika began his professional career in Russia with Torpedo Yaroslavl of the Russian Superleague in 1997. Although not drafted in his first year of eligibility, the Dallas Stars selected him in 1999 with the final pick of the draft. He never played in North America, instead competing in Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan. His Russian Superleague clubs included Dynamo Moscow, Amur Khabarovsk, Spartak Moscow, Molot-Prikamye Perm, HC Sibir Novosibirsk, Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod and Lada Togliatti.
International play
Donika represented Russia at the junior level in three consecutive World Junior Championships, appearing in 20 games and recording three assists. He helped Russia win a bronze medal in 1997 and a silver medal in 1998, losing to Finland in overtime in the gold medal game. In his final year of junior eligibility at the 1999 tournament in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Russia defeated Canada in overtime for the gold medal. With that victory, Donika and teammate Roman Lyashenko became the only players in World Junior Championship history to have won gold, silver and bronze medals.
