Playing career
Höglund began his professional career with Färjestads BK before joining the Calgary Flames in 1996. In February 1998, the Flames traded him and Zarley Zalapski to the Montreal Canadiens for Valeri Bure and a draft pick. He signed as a free agent with the Toronto Maple Leafs in July 1999 and played four seasons there, often on a line with countrymen Mats Sundin and Mikael Renberg. Despite a lack of scoring that frustrated fans, head coach Pat Quinn consistently gave him first-line ice time. In September 2003, Höglund signed with the Florida Panthers but did not make the roster, instead playing the 2003–04 season for Swiss club HC Davos. He then returned to Färjestads BK and ended his 22-year professional career with Skåre BK of the Hockeyettan in the 2009–10 season.
