In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Draco is given a dangerous task by Lord Voldemort. On the Hogwarts Express, Draco immobilises Harry and breaks his nose. Harry spends much of the year trailing Draco on the Marauder's Map but loses track of him once Draco enters the Room of Requirement. When Katie Bell is almost killed by a cursed necklace and Ron nearly dies from poisoned mead, Harry suspects Draco is behind both attacks. Draco works mostly alone in the Room of Requirement, refusing to confide in his friends, and the realisation of what he is expected to do nearly drives him to a nervous breakdown. When Harry walks in on Draco crying in Moaning Myrtle's bathroom, Draco attempts the Cruciatus Curse, but Harry uses the Sectumsempra spell from the Half-Blood Prince's book, cutting deep gashes into Draco's face and chest.
