Story

In the original version, two beautiful girls who look exactly alike appear before a very ordinary second-year junior high school student. They both say they fell in love with him at first sight and propose that he date both of them at once, beginning a strange love triangle.

In the anime, Nozomu Futami returns to his childhood town and moves near a shrine housing a legendary stone. The stone is rumored to have been where twin girls turned into birds because of their love for a man who could not choose between them. The town has an abundance of twin girls, and six pairs soon compete for Nozomu's affection.

Protagonist

In the novel version, the protagonist is a second-year junior high school student who moved away as a child and recently returned. He panics at the twins' outrageous actions but has the courage to help them without hesitation. He does not remember much about childhood friends like the Ichijo sisters and the Momoi sisters.

In the comic version, he is a second-year student at Futai-ji Junior High School who has a record of heartbreak and accidentally kisses the Sakurazuki sisters. In the game version, he is a second-year student at Futae Middle School who comes to live at Rinnōji Temple due to his parents' overseas transfer. The anime protagonist Nozomu Futami, voiced by Motoki Takagi, is a childhood friend of the Ichijō twins and helps the Sakurazuki twins through trials set by their father.

Twins Heroines

Sumireko Ichijō and Kaoruko Ichijō are voiced by Ami Koshimizu and Yui Horie respectively. Kaoruko has dark brown hair in a ponytail, while Sumireko has it cut short. They are childhood friends of the protagonist and lived next door when they were little, but became estranged after he moved away. Both are members of the tennis club and attend Isshin Academy, a girls' junior high school in the neighboring town.

Kaoruko has an androgynous sensibility, and Sumireko has a bold and playful personality. They have known the Momoi sisters since childhood. In the anime, they attend the same school as Nozomu and both harbor secret feelings for him; in kindergarten they said they would both marry him. Yura Sakurazuki and Kira Sakurazuki are voiced by Hiromi Tsunakake and Yui Itsuki.

Supporting Character

Gokokuji Temple, voiced by Eiji Maruyama, is the butler of the Sakuratsuki family and drives the Sakuratsuki sisters. The parents of the Sakuratsuki sisters strongly opposed their daughters' wish to transfer schools to meet the protagonist, but allowed it after nine days of discussion; they appear only in dialogue. The grandmother of the Sakuratsuki sisters serves as their etiquette teacher; she challenges Kenmochi to a kendo match, and after the protagonist wins by chance, she acknowledges his victory and teases him.

Miyabi Hinagiku, voiced by Ai Orikasa, is the mother of Rara and Ruru and the shrine maiden of Sourin Temple. A childhood friend of Nozumu's mother, she allows Nozumu to live at her temple while his father studies astronomy in the United States; Nozumu sees her as a maternal figure after his mother's death. Billy, voiced by Chiaki Takahashi, is the Hinagiku twins' pet goat who initially dislikes Nozumu due to the twins' affections, eating his homework and headbutting him, but later develops a friendly rivalry. Kenmochi, voiced by Masaharu Satō, is the Sakurazuki twins' butler and chief bodyguard who carries out daily tests written by their father.

He initially suspects Nozumu of mugging the twins but is cleared; his dislike continues due to the twins' affections, though he eventually warms up. Keisuke Kosaka, voiced by Reiko Kiuchi, is Nozumu's best friend and classmate who rekindles their friendship after Nozumu returns; he is sometimes envious of Nozumu's popularity with the twins. Juntarō Gonda is voiced by Daisuke Ono.
