Model 1817 common rifle
Flintlock rifle used from the 1820s to 1840s on the frontier.
It had a 36-inch rifled barrel for .54 caliber bullets with seven grooves, and a large oval patch box in the stock. Produced by contractors including Henry Deringer, it saw notable use during the Texas Federalist War and later in the American Civil War, with many converted to percussion cap.
