Ainu Language

The language of the Ainu, supervised by linguist Hiroshi Nakagawa.

The Ainu language in Golden Kamuy is supervised by Hiroshi Nakagawa, an Ainu language linguist from Chiba University. The language is used by the indigenous Ainu people, including the young girl Asirpa, who speaks it throughout the story. The series explores the Ainu language and the way the Ainu respectfully use natural resources to thank the Kamuy they believe provide them. The language is presented as a key part of Ainu culture, distinct from the Japanese spoken by most other characters.
