Key facts and history
Toriyama created Frieza around the time of the Japanese economic bubble, inspired by real estate speculators whom he called the "worst kind of people"[3] Toriyama gave Frieza polite speech to create an unsettling contrast with his cruelty, since villains typically speak rudely.[2] Frieza possesses multiple forms, each more powerful than the last, with his fourth form implied to be his basic one.[4] After Ayres stepped down due to health issues, Daman Mills assumed the role beginning with the television broadcast of the Universal Survival Saga.[5][6]
According to the Shenlong Times issue #2 bonus pamphlet, the character Frieza's appearance was based on Yū Kondō, who was Toriyama's editor during that period.[2]
What the cited sources add
Anime News Network reports that the 'F' in the 2015 film title stands for "Frieza," who is revived in the film.[7][8] Maximum the Hormone's song "F" was released as a double A-side single on July 9, 2008, and the single rose as high as number two on the Oricon music chart.[9] The song "F" is used as a "battle song" during a battle scene in the 2015 film.[10] The characters in the film are the survivors of the Frieza army and his servants.[7][10]
