Last updated
Jamatami was a German pop group formed in 2011 through a casting by the television station Super RTL. The group consisted of members Jazz, Miriam, Tamer, and Matt. They are known for their singles "Perfect Day (Tic Tac Toe)", "Dance Under The Moonlight", "Ma-Ya-Hi", and "Astronaut", as well as their reality series Jamatami: Das Star-Tagebuch.
Formation and Success
In spring 2011, RTL held a casting call for a new pop group, selecting Jazz, Miriam, Matt, and Tamer. The members became close friends and named the band Jamatami, a combination of their names (Ja, Ma, Ta, Mi), sometimes stylized as JAMATAMI or JaMaTaMi. Their first appearance was on the Toggo Tour in 2011, and they simultaneously starred in the reality series Jamatami: Das Star-Tagebuch, which documented their formation and rise. On May 13, 2011, they released their debut single "Perfect Day (Tic Tac Toe)" with the b-side "Rollercoaster"; this became their biggest hit, promoted by Super RTL.
Their debut album Tic Tac Toe followed on June 17, 2011, in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, entering the German charts on July 4, 2011, and peaking at #38 for four weeks. The second single "Dance Under The Moonlight" was released on July 15, 2011, and also succeeded in Germany. Their third single "Ma-Ya-Hi", a cover of O-Zone's "Dragostea Din Tei", charted in Germany at #84 for one week starting September 23, 2011. Afterwards, Jamatami performed numerous concerts across Germany as part of the Toggo Tour.
Sudden Split and Farewell Concert
On January 27, 2012, Jamatami released their fourth single "Astronaut", which included a b-side cover of Kylie Minogue's "I Should Be So Lucky". They performed several concerts in February, and Matt posted a video of himself and Miriam covering Adele's "Someone Like You" before a concert. In 2012, the members decided to split up to pursue solo projects. Miriam and Jazz first announced a farewell concert on their official Facebook fanpages on May 2, 2012, with the concert already scheduled.
Over the summer, the members prepared solo material to present at the farewell concert. On August 24, 2012, they reunited in Germany for a final concert, performing past hits. At this concert, Tamer debuted his new single "Dance All Night" and a cover of Cher's "Believe"; Jazz performed her solo single "Something Special" as Jazz Mine; and Matt also presented new material.
