Manniac

Manniac is a 2018 German horror movie. Andreas Bethmann directed and wrote the script.

The story centers on Manni, a sexually frustrated and unlucky man. After his three friends mock him, he storms off. He then watches a couple having sex through a window. Next, he breaks a lock to observe a woman masturbating in her kitchen. When she enters a sauna, he slams her head into the hot rocks, licks her burned face, and drags her remains away in a sack.

After arguing with his friends again, Manni spies on a woman in a threesome and another masturbating woman. Once she finishes, he stabs her with an ornamental sword, rapes and dismembers her corpse, and rubs her body parts on himself before throwing them in the garbage. In the forest, he spots the first couple having sex on their car. He stabs them both and takes their bagged bodies home.

Visiting one friend leads to an argument. Manni bashes his friend’s head in and tries to eat his brain. He then peeps on another masturbating woman, ambushes her in the washroom, beats her to death with a hammer, and rapes her body. Later, he fights another friend and impales him with a metal spike.

At home, Manni has nightmares about his actions. His remaining friend calls, and they meet at an overpass. They go to a secluded area, where Manni tries to bludgeon his friend. Three police officers, tipped off by the friend, ambush him. Though unarmed and outnumbered, Manni kills all three. He then sneaks into a home where a woman is masturbating in her bathtub. She screams when she sees him.

The cast includes Barry More as Manni, Cheyenne Lacroix as the ending victim, and others such as Katharina, Lorena Moreno, and Ingo Trendelbernd as one of Manni’s friends.

The film had a limited release of 1,500 copies in Germany.

Reception was poor. Film Bizarro called it unsatisfactory in sex and horror, with cheesy cinematography and a cheap look, though it admitted the gore effects were decent. Independent Flicks praised the effects but criticized everything else, giving it 1/7. Forced Viewing awarded a zero, stating the effects were cheap and cheesy, the acting poor, and the sex scenes boring, calling it a “train wreck” best ignored.
