Plot

A June bug named Mr. Zoomzeman once shared a birch tree home with his wife and many other insects. During a wedding, a boss took over the tree. Zoomzeman went to a creek under a full moon, where a nightfairy listened to his story. She came to Earth, sent the boss and the tree to the moon, and left Zoomzeman without a home. She said the tree could return only if an animal-loving human went with him. Years later, a space-loving boy named Peter lived with his sister Annabelle. Zoomzeman arrived and asked both children to travel to the moon. They got separated: Peter met a sandman, while the boss, now called the Moonman, captured Annabelle and made her work. Peter, Zoomzeman, and the Sandman went to the nightfairy’s palace, and she allowed Peter to go to the moon. Annabelle and Mrs. Zoomzeman learned the Moonman planned to fire a cannon at the palace at sunrise. They were caught and jailed, but Peter, Mr. Zoomzeman, and the Sandman freed them. Mrs. Zoomzeman made peace with her husband, and Annabelle told Peter about the cannon. The group confronted the Moonman as he prepared to fire. Peter could not stop the cannon in time, but the palace survived the hit. The nightfairy arrived, sent the Moonman to Mars, and brought the birch tree back to Earth. Peter and Annabelle returned home, and the Zoomzemans were happy to have their tree again.
