Playing career
Mercier debuted in the National League with Genève-Servette HC during the 2003–04 season. On January 20, 2014, he signed a three-year contract extension with the club, and won the Spengler Cup with Geneva in 2014 and 2015. A two-year extension followed on May 17, 2016. During the 2016–17 season, Mercier played his 542nd regular season game for Geneva, becoming the team's all-time leader in games played. On December 28, 2018, he signed an early two-year extension through the 2020/21 season. On January 16, 2021, Mercier received a 7-game suspension and a CHF 5,700 fine for accidentally bumping into a referee on January 12, 2021; Servette appealed, and both were reduced to 3 games and CHF 2,520 on January 21, 2021. He signed a one-year extension on April 6, 2021, and retired after the 2021–22 season.
