Avalon Part Six

The island's secrets are revealed as Goliath faces a choice between home and destiny.

Avalon Part Six is the final part of the Avalon arc in the animated television series Gargoyles (1994–97). The Avalon Clan are the gargoyle eggs of Castle Wyvern that were protected by Princess Katharine, Tom, and the Magus. The eggs were taken to Avalon where they hatched and grew to adulthood where they formed this offshoot of the Wyvern Clan. Katharine and Tom raised them as their own children, and thus gave each a name to be told apart from each other, so the Avalon Clan holds great respect for them.

Lore & Background

Known members of the clan include Gabriel, the son of Coldstone and Coldfire, and Ophelia.

Reader's Guide

The episode opens with the climax of the battle against the Dark One's manifestation. Goliath and his allies must utilize the combined power of the Stone of Destiny and the island's magic to banish the entity back into the void. This confrontation forces Owen Burnett, disguised as Xanatos's servant, to make a critical sacrifice that reveals his true allegiance to the clan over his master. As the threat is neutralized, the focus shifts to the departure from Avalon. The group realizes they cannot simply return to their lives as if nothing happened. The magic of the island has aged them or altered their timeline in subtle ways, creating a disconnect with the world they left behind. Angela's role as the 'perfect' gargoyle is tested as she must choose between staying on the mystical island or returning to the dangerous reality of New York. Goliath makes the difficult decision to lead his clan back home, accepting that their duty lies in protecting humanity despite its flaws. The arc concludes with a somber return to Manhattan, where the clan finds the city changed and new threats looming. The cliffhanger leaves the audience wondering how the absence of time on Avalon has affected the political landscape of New York and what new enemies might arise from the shadows now that the Dark One is gone but not forgotten.
